I admit it -- I use vinegar for underarm deodorant. I have a spray bottle that I use to spray the vinegar on each morning. I also spray it on after I shower even though I've just shaved and it stings for a minute. (call me crazy).
Good question -- will you stink of vinegar instead of stinky pits?!?! Adding a few drops of tea tree oil to the vinegar seems to minimize the vinegar smell while it's wet and likely helps to keep the bacteria at bay. Once the vinegar has dried you won't be offending anyone with either smell.
My reasons: health, finances, the environment and it works better than any natural deodorant I've tried!

ReplyDeleteI never even knew....??!!
ReplyDelete... that I had stinky pits? It's true.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to try it out JoAnn and let me know what you think!

I put a cup of vinegar in every load of laundry. Takes away that musty smell that comes from letting laundry sit around too long (I never never ever do that by the way...) Anyway, never knew you could use it for "pits!" :) Good to know!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynette! Thanks for following!
ReplyDeleteVinegar is great for so many things! I put it in my laundry if I'm washing a bunch of sweaters to minimize static (instead of using dryer sheets which are full of chemicals).
I have used it for minimizing the laundry stench when it's sat too long in the washing machine too! I mean, I would IF I had laundry stench... lol Julie...
This is so interesting! I've talked to all of my "crunchy" friends about deodorant but they've tried everything and still use regular deodorant. I might try this if I get brave. I'm not fond of vinegar smell. lol
ReplyDeleteKim, "crunchy" lol... I've heard "granola" recently too. I gotta say -- I do love granola!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to get your "crunchy" friends to try vinegar and let me know what they think! Oh and be brave and try it too...
The only down side of deodorants (vs anti-perspirants) is you still sweat... Ah well...
Hmmm, I'll have to look at what I use. Maybe it's an anti-perspirant. lol
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm getting crunchier by the minute! I plan to use cloth diapers this time around. :)
Wow, I need to try this. I can't seem to find a natutal deo that actually works. I always end up stinking after a little while. I only use vinegar and baking soda as cleaners, so it's always in my cupboard.
ReplyDeleteI tried a number of natural deodorants and they wouldn't work for me either! Try it and let me know what you think...
ReplyDeleteDoes it work? I have to admit most days I go without deodorant at all. I just don't really sweat. Of course, my days consist of sitting in a cold office in front of a computer so...I have no opportunities for sweating. I somehow end up with free samles of deodorant from all the various free sample sites I visit :)
ReplyDeleteBWM, how bizarre that you don't sweat! Vinegar won't stop you from sweating (just stop you from stinking). I seem to sweat a lot, but I do a lot of walking.
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome that you can find a natural ,chemical free deodorant that really works. As for the tea tree oil I love it.I just open the bottle every now and then just to smell it.It smells like a beautiful forest to me.Of course I use it for other reasons and will probably try this out. Thanks for posting this.
